Hi everyone
I have applied for the University of Ulster for Adult Nursing (1) and Mental Health Nursing (2). I have an interview for both on Friday the 7th and I am totally unprepared for it. I am currently unemployed and I don't have a lot of interview experience. I am long out of practice for sitting tests etc and really nervous. I know I have the suitable qualifications but have no idea what to expect. The letter I got says that they wil be looking for commitment and insight into nursing, interpersonal and communication skills and humanity. PLEASE HELP |

Hi There,
Well I had my Nursing interview Mental Health Branch in January, you can find out more about that on the newbie introductions page - MH nursing Interview. From my own experience it was a group discussion around them topic of cost cuts in the NHS, and then a single interview. This was to basically to find out why I had decided on MH as it was my only choice, and what I could bring to the role of a MH nurse, my experience from work either paid or voluntary. I also had to do a maths assesment I dont know if you have that part, take a look at my conversations to find out more!!
And Good Luck

Remember the interview works both ways. You should have some qustions to ask them about the programme, say support, workload, other items that may sway you from one Uni to another. Be yourself, think over the question and answer it. When you are done, quit, dont keep adding , it may be digging a hole, if you are shooting from the hip. Practice with a buddy answering those topic questions. Good Luck Dennis |

good luck cottonbottom, you have already been given some sound advice. There should be no trick questions, but they may advise that if they offer you a position on nurse training course that you do a bit of care work (nursing home is useful) or hey may accept you on what experiences you have out of life.
Extra advice even if you are unemployed it will look good if you are doing some form of educational training even something such as basic skills in maths and English with learn direct/or other college. Interpersonal is talking about how you relate to others and visa versa, how you get on with other people, interact, communicate, socialise. Communication is verbal (words) or non verbal (if your body posture shows that you are approachable, confident, interested).Insight into nursing could mean, what do you think nursing is about (hard work, tough training, 24 hour care, through NHS and private sectors, it is about how you view nursing is it as a job, a wage, or commitment and career-they want to know what you think or how nursing is portrayed). I hope this is of some use, Karen RMN (written not long after 0500 so am bit tired) best of luck |
